Written By Olukokun Adedeji

Equation i-If Jack is an industrious, innovative/energetic man
Equation ii-Trade is a money making idea/business available
Prove- that Jack of all Trade = Master of None
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

About 2000 years ago …………….Hypothesis (A)
In the Stone Age when development was lacking, great minds were confined to laboring for sustenance and survival. Ways of life was static; I guess people were tuned most certainly to a line of profession. The farmers trained their offspring in the line of farming, fishermen focused mainly on the task of catching fishes, at least every individual posses a resource gotten from a defined trade/profession which gives a certain returns used for meeting daily needs or as a material for exchange.
Life in the 21st Century …………….Hypothesis (B)
Diversification/improvement is the order of the day in this new age, development and machinery has complimented the labour of man in order to achieve large targets in respective line of business which of course has had a positive effect on the monthly/yearly returns of organizations and individuals.

Equating Hypothesis A & B
Folks of this new age have been brought up or conditioned to believe fallacies often passed down generation line. One good thing the African cultures cherish/respect is the old wise proverbs, ones that compliment statements, giving richer meaning to expressions and words. Folks of this new age have been brought up and conditioned to believe these wise sayings one of which is Jack of all trade; master of none.
Jack in the Stone Age could be a brilliant or dull personality as the case may be who despite having rich/abundant embedded talents refused to multi-task to maximally optimize his potentials. Even the parable of a master who gave out talents to his servants clearly illustrated a sharing formula where each servant got a specific amount depending on the ability of their capacities, everyone had at least one talent while others had as much as five. A jack that made good use of all his given talents for profiting and self reckoning definitely is a man that is envisioned with glaring pictures of fame and success stories. Therefore I bet to agree that such jack is a master of some if not all.

A good example of a brave and talented jack as shown to the Christian folks is David; a man proclaimed to be after God’s heart. He was certainly a genius at many things which gave him a positive edge from his childhood days till his death as a celebrated king. Permit me to perform an analytical breakdown of the heroic icon. David was first a shepherd that tendered flocks, he was also an hunter that killed wild animals in the bush (remember he killed wild animals whose interest was feasting on the sheeps he watched over), he was a messenger that ran errands (he took food to his brothers), he was a counselor (calmed and advised the troops during the difficult time of Goliaths threat), he was a foreign minister (as he boldly negotiated the deal for his brethren’s freedom with the opposing kingdom), he was an army general/soldier as he took the lead on battle days, he was a servant who worked fervently at the kings palace, he was a musician with cunning abilities on the harp, a superb writer and composer, he was a professional dancer, a strategist who knew where to hide during battles, a king whose fame went far and wide, a father and a husband, he was also a role model and public figure. Indeed David was a jack with many good sides. So who fabricated the lie that jack of all trade is a master of none? That’s what is called VERSATILITY as Sola Adesakin (Nee Olukokun) my lovely sister would say and that is the missing link in the bloodstream of we the nowadays youth.

I beg to strongly disagree that every child would be privileged to get a sound education and even if everyone does what’s the percentage of those that would get a good job from it? That’s why many has been condemned to a life of struggle as the word “managing” has been the watchword in the quest to survive. A jack confined to the corners of an office expecting the month to fast forward for the visit of monthly salary manifestation is a jack with one trade, a master of little. What’s happening to the hidden talents and the mind capable of controlling other chains of businesses? Now let’s be realistic, is Dangote Africa’s richest man a master of none? Sure even the dumb can testify to his jack of all trade ability, a potential that has forced his products in virtually every household in Nigeria. Please prove to me that there is a Nigerian who directly or indirectly doesn’t/haven’t made use of Dangote cement, sugar, Flour, spaghetti, Juice, Rice and oil and gas products and other packages produced by this man’s firm. I even heard he has a telecommunication outfit; well the only thing remaining is the start of a Dangote Bank.

Now my eyes popped open to the diverse possibilities entrenched in my system especially the passive ones that lies untapped and I concluded that becoming a jack, the master of some is what would give me an advantage in this tight fisted society where wealth seem to circulate around some microscopic few at the expense of the well read numerous Nigerian youth roaming the streets in partial fulfillment of surviving. Now I am in the learning process trying to get the necessary fire test to my talents and abilities for personal growth and development/economic worthiness, so if you hear of a certain Kreative Koncept in the distant future who are employers of labour and proud owners of Image Makers, Peculiar graphics, Tush events, and official partners of Ileovasion Magazine then just remember that I warned you of my strive to become a Jack of all trade, master of some. Don’t blame me, if Jesus who happen to be a role model to some of us was a carpenter, a physician, a messenger, a commander, a teacher, a public speaker, a writer, a prophet, a judge, a king, a savior and an advocate amongst others so who are we not to photocopy his trait? May I ask if you want to be independent and rich, you really want to be a man of influence, a boss and controller of huge cash; you wanna charter a fight for convenience in not too distant future? Please sign up to the club of the focused Jacks of many trades, master of some………
